Welcome Post for Porch

I spruced up an ugly wooden post that I found at the thrift store for $3 and turned it into my new Welcome Sign for my front porch.  To bad I didn't take a before picture but if you could imagine poo brown and hunter green....yuck!  It looks so much better now.  I painted it with Tropical Oasis from Valspar and I found the decorative knob (spray painted that yellow) and the metal Welcome sign at Hobby Lobby.

Re-purpose knit pants into Summer Capri's

When money is tight, and your kids grow faster then you like, and they are rough on their clothes during the summertime......just re-purpose them back into functional clothes again! I took several pairs of my girls pants that had become to short for pants and cut them off at the bottom to make capri's.
Since these were all knit, I did an easy zigzag technique on the sewing machine to ruffle the new hems of the capri's.  They were all finished in less then 30 minutes!  So glad they can still wear them!

Air Conditioner Cover

My husband made this awesome cover for our air conditioning unit.  It was a must have with 3 young children who play around it in our back yard, and a 20 month old boy who kept wanting to touch it.  Now he doesn't even remember its there!
It turned out awesome.  It will be easy to store during the winter months as well.

February 2013 Valentine's Day Mantel

It's up....early!
But I love Valentine's Day and all the hearts with reds and pinks seem to help boost
my spirits during these long and cold winter days.

The red pom pom yarn can be found at Michael's and I actually use it on my Christmas tree as a garland.
The doily banner is new this year and I made it from items I found in the Target $1.00 section.  The bakers twins, white doily's and stickers.

Make sure to take a peek at more of my decorations new for this year.  These fun envelopes are hanging up as well and look forward to being used soon. Go HERE

Childhood Desk Makeover

I sure hope I will not be on my siblings hate list when I tell them the
"BROWN DESK" is no longer brown.  haha
We all used this desk when we were younger......much younger.  It has been in the family even before I was born and that is 30+ years.  It was time to make it over and give it some new life.

So much better and it fits my personality so much better now!!
eek, I love it.

The color I used is Valspar Mountain Botanical Satin Signature Paint found at Lowe's

Spring Towel up-do

The great thing about this project is it helps with spring cleaning........
it's a great way to use up fabric scraps, cover up stains on old towels that still have some life left and these towels also work great as home decor; after you have scrubbed down that oven or bathroom just hang them up.  Either way they are sure to help brighten up your space.
Go make yourself some:  grab a towel, some fabric and sew on your fabric right to them.  If you are not a sewer, then heat n bond is your best friend.  Simply iron your fabric onto the towels.  simple as that.

And then if you really do not want to make these yourself, then you are in luck, I have a few sets of these happy pennant towels in my shop, all ready to go. Go HERE to see.
Happy cleaning, happy gift giving or happy decorating!

Blue Bird

I purchased this bird unfinished from The Wood Connection shop in town.
I took him home, painted him and then I mod podged fabric onto the front to finish him off.
He sits on top of my mantle and
He makes me happy!

Dollar Store EASTER EGG up do

With St. Patrick's Day almost out of the way I am trying to get ready for Easter!
It's less then 3 weeks away. Oh my.
Have you see any of these fun felt cut outs at the dollar store?!?!  Well, this one I purchased for $1 last year in a last minute attempt to add some Easter festivity to my front door. (I saw some this year as well) I just put it up as is on my door.  It did the job....last year... but this year I wanted something more fun and colorful.
So with help from my fabric scraps and some liquid stitch glue I added a bit of color to the egg.
For a little extra detail I stitched around the egg and some of the cut outs with my sewing machine, then I simply threaded some string in the top to hang it on my door.
 Ahhh, so much better!

PVC Pipe Binoculars

Spring is coming and why not get those kids excited to get out of the house and explore the outdoors once again.  It's been a cold snowy dark winter and my eyes as well as the kids' eyes have some adjusting to do with the sun so why not do it with a fun pair of binoculars!!  made from PVC Pipe!
Let me be honest...I have made them out of Toilet Paper rolls before but kids hammered those to death.  They were flattened within an hour.  That is why I love these ones.

I found this bag of already cut, already sanded down pieces of PVC Pipe that was perfect for this project.  It comes with 10 pieces so you can make 5 pairs of binoculars out of one pack.  Simply glue 2 pipes together (using something like E6000 or another kind of super strong adhesive) and let them dry.
I then glued some picture hangers onto the sides of the pipes and l also let them dry. (can be found anywhere in your picture hanging station at Lowe's or a craft store)  Tie some ribbon onto them and you are ready to go....

I simply could not get my kids to stand still for a good picture of them using them,
but hey I think they are a lot of fun even for moms!

Lucky Rainbow Plate for St. Patrick's Day

I took a plate from Target and added some cute vinyl to the top of it.  I then glued some buttons on as well in the order of the rainbow.  Thanks to Roy G Biv
It's a small and cute addition to my other St. Patrick's Day decor.

Valentine's Day Gumball Machine

I have seen these adorable gumball machines all over craft blogs and also on Pinterest
so I thought it was time to make one myself.  They (I made 2) were super easy and so inexpensive to make.... I am giving away one of them as a gift for my kids grandparents and the other, well I think it looks pretty darn cute up on my shelf so it's staying. haha
You can check out many how to's here to put together one for your self or someone else.
why did it take me so long to get it done?!?
