Ruffled Table Runner

Do you have a mantel, table or in my case a top of a new bookcase that needs to be cute-i-fied?!
Make yourself a very easy table runner using felt and fabric.  I measured the top of my bookcase and then added a few inches to the length so it would hang over the sides.  I cut out my felt (I did it double thickness), sewed the 2 pieces of felt together all around the outside edge.  Then I sewed 2.5" strips of fabric right sides together, turned them out and ironed flat.  Then used my sewing machine and did a basting stitch right down the middle and gathered them up, sewed them right to the top of the felt and it was all done.
A ruffled table runner
I love how it protects the top of my mantel bookcase (from Ikea) and it's a great decoration piece as well.
For those of you that are apartment renters like me and do not have the privilege of having a mantel to call your own and decorate.....this bookcase is your solution!!
Like the Banner hanging on the bookcase??
There are several available HERE !

Tangled ideas for your daughter that loves Rapunzel

My daughter has a birthday coming up in the next couple of weeks and she has asked for a TANGLED birthday.  And since the movie comes out on DVD next week, we both have had Tangled on our minds :)  I love the movie.  We saw it on Christmas Eve and it's a new favorite of mine.
So for her birthday I made a few small Tangled gifts that she can enjoy.  I made a fleece tie pillow....and a neck pillow.  One for the car and one she can use to watch the movie.
She is also getting a small Tangled doll as well as a full size doll and I wanted to make her something that she could carry all of her doll stuff in.  So I made a small tote bag the same size as the larger doll (using this tutorial that I have used many times) with Tangled fabric that I found at Joann's. I can just see her carrying this around with her......everywhere!!
For the fleece pillow, take your pillow form, cut out 2 pieces of fleece just larger then the pillow form.  Cut out squares from each corner then cut strips through both layers that you will then tie.  Tie 3 sides together first, then insert the pillow form and then tie the last side.

There you have it, a fun and simple pillow to go with the movie.  And when your daughter out grows her obsession with Rapunzel, you can simply untie the fleece and make a different pillow :)
I think these will be a great distraction for her......she has to wait until Easter for the movie.

Easter Egg pennant banner and Plastic Egg garland

Here is my new Easter Banner for 2011.
I wanted needed something cute and cheery to hang in my living room for spring so I whipped up this banner this week.  I LOVE IT!!
Do you love it too??  I have one available HERE
But if you have a ton of those plastic eggs laying in a box somewhere, turn them into a cute garland.  That is what I have used a couple of years for Easter. Last year I used it as a advent by putting fun things inside the eggs to count down to Easter.  Click HERE for that post.

DIY Pot of Gold for St. Patty's Day

Here is a simple DIY treat for your family or friends for St. Patty's Day.
I took the plastic containers that my baby's food comes in, spray painted the outside of the container and lid black.  Then I took a black pip cleaner, punched two holes and made the handle and then filled it up with Rolo's and added a little tag to go with it.
make two different looks using the lid.  Simply don't use it, or glue it to the bottom.
Or if the Pots of gold have a little tavelin' to do, put it on top to keep the gold from spilling out.
I am making a bunch of these as place settings for my St. Patty's Day dinner......along with GREEN homemade macaroni and cheese, broccoli, fish sticks and Jello
I am hoping for a rainbow later today......it's raining here which explains the weird color in my pictures :)
Now go pinch someone just for fun!

DIY Spring Accessories

I can not tell you just how excited I am today.  The half a foot of snow that fell a couple of days ago has melted and the SUN is out today and I have a wee bit of Spring Fever!!!
It's amazing what a little bit of SUN can do to your mood!  ha......as well as a few new spring accessories.
I whipped these up the other day when I needed a little mood booster.
These rings were made with a ring blank and buttons.  Yep, I have done many button rings and I love how easy they are.
I also made a couple new poppies clips that I can add to hair, use as a broach or because I use an alligator clip I can add it to a shirt or jacket super easy.  A few new rings as well as a new bobby clip.
Go ahead, you know you need a mood booster after a very LONG winter!
 Go make some!
