Cupcake Countdown for Birthday

I have a few birthdays coming up in the next couple of months and now that my kiddies are at the age that they get excited about a birthday, I thought it would be fun to make up a birthday countdown that is for every member of the family!
I made this completely out of felt, a little fabric for the letters and the flame on top the candle is ribbon.
I added a few extra touches by sewing zig zags on the cupcake liner, adding sprinkles to the frosting using the same Elmer's painter pens I used for my quiet book and of course the cute little flame on top the candles. I simply made 2 button holes on the top to string the rick rack through so I can simply hang it up on the wall.  I also inserted a wooden dowel on the top and bottom for weight to give the felt some extra stiffness.
I then sewed the cupcake and one candle completely to the felt.  I used heat n bond and fabric for the letters.  This was a great project to clean out some scraps I had in my stash.
Then I made extra candles in a variety of colors as well as a name badge for each member of the family.  On the back of each name and candle is Velcro (the scratchy side) so it will stick onto the felt. I sewed the Velcro onto the felt. This countdown is interchangeable for each birthday and as our family grows I can simply make more name badges to go with it.  The back side of the countdown is were all the extra candles and names are hidden so they will not get lost in a drawer or box somewhere.
The candles make it fun for the kids.  They can either count up to the upcoming birthday by adding candles to the top of the cupcake, or count down by taking off candles as the birthday gets closer.
So Happy Birthday and eat cake!
I got this idea here but made a lot of my own changes
to make this countdown more personal and into the one I wanted.

My finished coundown measures the following:
Gray felt- 30" tall and 20" wide
Candles - 3" tall and 1.25" wide
Names - Aprox 2.5" tall and the length depends on the length of the name :)

Philly Cheese Steak Panini

Looks yummy.
Come on, I know you think so.
My husband and I had the awesome privilege of living in Pennsylvania for a few years.  And while we were there we had a chance to eat the real authentic Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches......and they two were amazing.  You have never had a real one unless you are sitting in PA sinking your teeth into one.
honest.
But I tried my best to impress my hubby a few weeks ago when I made him one of these, using his new Panini maker that the hottest Santa gave him for Christmas :)
Here is what I did:
thinly sliced roast beef
mozzarella cheese (or your favorite cheese that melts easily)
Grill up some onions and green peppers together but in a separate pan
good quality crusty bread

assemble your sandwiches, then spread olive oil on the bread before you put them on the grill to get the fun grill marks.
Cook till your cheese is all meltly-gooey-yummy
Easy and delish!

Treat for daddy from the kiddies

ahhhh, just look at them.
I think they are pretty darn cute.
I used the containers left over from some drink mixes that we always have in our pantry, wrapped them up with cute V-Day paper (8 sheet pack from Target for $1.00) and then filled them up with a treat.
My girls will be giving one to their daddy, the others are for them :)

Simple Valentine's Day Decor

I love how simple these are but how cute it looks.  I found the glitter hearts at Target for $1.00 for all 4 of them.  I printed off the Keep Calm and Love On for free and then bought a bag of yucky tasting cute looking candy hearts to put in my other vase.  Simple, just like love should be.
